Here's how I wrap up the month and budget for the next month using a zero based budgt.

Using a Zero Based Budget Every Month

I'm a big fan of spreadsheets, so I use Google Sheets to budget every month.  BUT, the same principles apply no matter what you're using...

  • pen and paper
  • budgeting app
  • spreadsheet

See how I wrap up my budget and plan for the next month in this video (or read below).

🗓 Monthly Wrap-Up

It's important to see where your money went for the month.  Setting a budget doesn't do much good if you don't evaluate it.

Guess what?  No matter how good you are, your budget isn't going to be perfect.  That's okay.  That's how life works.

Here's what this looks like for me at the end of the month:

  • Total my spending for the month.
  • See what areas I overspent/underspent.
  • Identify areas I need to make some tweaks.

🗓 Plan for the Next Month

A budget is just a plan for your money.  Now that you've learned from last months spending, it's time to make a plan for this month.

Here's what it looks like for me:

  • Copy last months budget.
  • Make changes.
  • Add in any additional expenses specific to this upcoming month.

🤔 My Biggest Tip for Budgeting

Regular check-ins.  I do weekly check ins now, but if you're just getting started, doing daily check-ins is even easier.
